Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) Provision

Stockport School is committed to promoting and ensuring equality for all.

Stockport School recognises its responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) and the Equality Act 2010 not to discriminate against current or prospective students or employees with disabilities because of a reason relating to their disability.

The requirements of the school’s Disability Equality Scheme apply to all staff and students. Everyone in Stockport School accepts personal and professional responsibility for fully implementing the scheme and are encouraged to share their views on the scheme and make suggestions for its improvement.

Excellence and equality of opportunity are two of our core values which underpin all of our activities. We believe that the active promotion of equality and equal opportunities enriches the lives and experiences of all students. Stockport School is therefore committed to provide the very highest standards of education for all students, whatever their ability.

Stockport School seeks to deal with the individual needs of all students and prospective students with disabilities as far as reasonably practicable.

The school’s policy in relation to access to the buildings and the curriculum is set out in the Disability Equality Scheme / Accessibility Statement, which is available below.

What is SEND E-Learning? As part of Stockport’s SEND improvement journey we have created a SEND e-Learning course which is aimed at everyone who works with children and young people aged 0-25. It can be completed by anybody who has an interest in developing their knowledge and understanding of special educational needs and disabilities – SEND.

The training will provide existing SEND professionals and those who are new to SEND with the required high level of knowledge and insight into SEND, thus creating a well-informed, joint support network for Children and Young People (CYP) with SEND.

The SEND e-Learning course can also so be a useful tool for parent careers and anyone interested in developing their knowledge and understanding of SEND. The course is accessed via Learning Pool, which is the home of the council’s e-learning courses and is available free of charge. If you do not already have access to Learning Pool, then please click here for further guidance and support.

Let’s continue to work together to make SEND everyone’s business.

What is the Co-Production Charter? Our vision is for all children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to have the best start in life. We want all children and young people to be happy, prepared for adulthood and able to achieve their goals. We want families to feel supported, confident, resilient and connected to their community. Our SEND strategic priorities outline that we will work pro-actively and co-productively with parents, carers, young people and other partners to improve service planning, design, delivery and review and to ensure services are child, young people and family focused.

Stockport’s Local Area Co-Production Charter was co-produced with families, children, young people and health, care and education colleagues. The Charter is about the way we will all work together to create a culture where we will all:

  • Be Open and Honest
  • Actively Listen
  • Value the Lived Experience
  • Do What Matters
  • Be Accountable and Responsive
  • Work Together
  • Be Respectful

What is the Entitlement Framework? This document is used to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and help parents to understand the how the needs of their children should be met.

In Stockport, our vision is for all children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to have the best start in life. We want all children and young people to be happy, prepared for adulthood and able to achieve their goals. We want families to feel supported, confident, resilient and connected to their community.

We have worked together with parents, carers, young people and workforce across the local area to co-produce a set of Outcomes that we all want to achieve for children and young people. These are set out in our Outcomes Framework that was launched in November 2020.

The agreed statements are:

  • I feel Safe
  • I feel part of my local community
  • My voice is heard and acted upon
  • I enjoy good health and wellbeing
  • I am happy and have people I can trust
  • I am confident and able to reach my goals
  • The people who love and care for me are enabled to do this
